TINLEY PARK, Ill. – Village of Tinley Park Trustee Michael Glotz is set to take on the mantle of mayor after winning the April 6 Consolidated Election.
One Tinley Park’s Glotz, who ran unopposed after former Trustee Kevin Suggs dropped out of the race in March, received 3,840 votes, according to unofficial totals reported by the Cook and Will county clerk websites.
One Tinley Park also ran three candidates for Village trustee, who were unopposed in the election. They include incumbent Trustee William Brady (3,979 votes) and newcomers Colleen Sullivan (3,930 votes) and Dennis P. Mahoney (3,872 votes). Village Clerk Kristin A. Thirion, also a One Tinley Park candidate, won re-election after running unopposed with 4,169 votes.
“First and foremost, I want to thank the voters of Tinley Park,” stated Glotz in a press release issued by One Tinley Park. “We are humbled by the trust and confidence you have placed in us. We pledge to work on behalf of all our residents to make sure everyone has the opportunity of the American dream.”
Glotz stated that he would not have been successful in the election without the support of: wife, Kristie; and children, Katie and Kyle.
“They deserve some special thanks for putting up with me through the campaign season,” Glotz stated.
He also thanked the campaign volunteers, who walked door to door, made phone calls and worked the polls.
“Your help was critical in our success,” he said.
Glotz also thanked One Tinley Park’s supporters in the community.
“We are very proud of the wide coalition of Tinley Park residents we built during this campaign – our fellow union members, Republicans, Democrats, Independents, young and old,” he said. “Now, the time for politics is over, and we move to governing.
“Everyone who knows me knows I love a challenge. Well, the last 14 months, we have been living under conditions of COVID-19 that just a short time ago most of us could never have imagined. Our administration is and will always be committed to protecting the most vulnerable in our community.
“We will continue to collaborate with our police and fire department personnel to provide and ensure the highest level of safety and security possible in our community during these uncertain times.
“Our administration will continue to attract and foster smart growth that suits our community with well-paying jobs.
“We are committed to maximizing the efficiency and effectiveness of your local government by keeping taxes in check from the Village and refining our services and procedures.
“The expansion and augmentation of our communication initiatives and methods to help keep our residents as active, engaged participants within our community will remain a top priority.
“We look forward to working on the transition over the next month, so we can hit the ground running on May 1.”
