Mokena officials break ground at site of future Mokena Police Department facility
MOKENA, Ill. — Ground has officially been broken at the site of the future Mokena Police Department.
Village of Mokena officials held a ceremonial groundbreaking Wednesday, June 29, to kick off the construction of the new public safety facility on 3.5 acres of land at the northeast corner of 191st Street and 104th Avenue. The event also included representatives from Studio GC Architects and Henry Bros. Construction.
“The new station will have a welcoming community plaza in front, as well as a large community room for hosting neighborhood meetings, training classes, and other gatherings,” stated Interim Police Chief Brian Benton in a news release issued by the Village. “It will have a first-floor records section that will be entirely handicap accessible. It will be a completely modern facility with video monitoring, access control, and other advanced technology throughout. It will also have a physical fitness center, a defensive tactics area, and a firing range to help better prepare our officers to keep our community safe.”
Benton added that the new station was built “with the intent to accommodate our Village for the next 40-plus years.”
Construction is expected to begin in July, according to Village officials.
