MOKENA, Ill. – The Mokena Police Department is investigating an armed robbery and aggravated vehicular hijacking that occurred around 9 p.m. on Monday, May 10, in the 19900 block of S. LaGrange Road.
The victim had exited their vehicle and was walking toward a business when she “felt someone grab her purse,” according to a news release sent out by the police department.
“As the victim turned around, a male black subject wearing a dark face mask pointed a handgun at her demanding the purse, vehicle and cellphone,” the release stated.
The victim complied and fled inside the business, while the suspect reportedly left the scene in the victim’s vehicle – a white 2020 Acura TLX.
“The investigation also indicated that a dark colored Dodge Charger that was taken in an aggravated vehicular hijacking in Blue Island on May 10 may have also been involved in this incident,” the news release stated. “The victim’s vehicle was recovered several hours later in Hammond, Indiana.”
Police stated the vehicle was unoccupied at the time of its discovery in Indiana.
Mokena Police are actively investigating the incident and ask that anyone with information call 708-479-3912.
