Mokena responds to no confidence letter
MOKENA, Ill. — The Village of Mokena will hire an independent counsel to look into allegations made in a recent letter sent by the Patrol Officers and Sergeants of the Mokena Police Department expressing a lack of confidence in Police Chief Steven Vaccaro, according to a press release sent by the Village Friday, Nov. 6.
“On Friday, Oct. 30, the mayor, board of trustees, Board of Fire & Police Commissioners, and Village administrator received a letter from the Patrol Officers and Sergeants of the Mokena Police Department expressing no confidence in the chief of police, Steve Vaccaro,” the press release stated. “The Village has initiated a review of the matter by outside, independent counsel. Respecting the privacy and personal interests of those involved, the Village will not comment further until such time as is necessary.”
Mayor Frank Fleischer, reached by phone on Nov. 6, said the special counsel will handle the interviews of the officers who made the claims.
