An annual bicycle riding event held by the Orland Park Police Department to benefit Special Olympics Illinois is scheduled for Aug. 30.
The event will begin and end at Fattie’s Pub, 14420 John Humphrey Drive in Orland Park, with registration starting at 6:30 a.m. The bicycle ride will start at 7:30 a.m. Participants must be 12 years or older, and the cost is $25 per person.
“The police department bike ride is a great event,” stated Orland Park Mayor Keith Pekau in a press release about the event. “It's a beautiful ride through Orland Park and nearby forest preserves and for a great cause.”
The event features a 15-mile bicycle ride, with a complimentary breakfast at Fattie’s Pub after it concludes.
“Each summer, many people look forward to this event, and it seems to be a community favorite,” stated Orland Park Police Chief Tim McCarthy in the press release. “It's not a race, [but] rather a leisurely paced bike ride, and everyone remains together as a group.”
According to the press release, helmets are “expected” to be worn by the participants.
Online registration also is encouraged. Pre-registration is available until Aug. 28 at https://do.nr/wh2ph.
