TINLEY PARK, Ill. — A Tinley Park man has been charged with felony aggravated battery after a May 29 incident in the Brookside Glen neighborhood during which he admitted to shoving a 59-year-old man to the ground, causing the man’s death days later.
Tinley Park police identified Jacob Bean, 24, as the offender in a press release sent out on Friday, June 3. The victim was identified as Frank Stiso.
The incident occurred around 5:30 p.m. on May 29 in the 8600 block of Brookside Glen Drive.
Tinley Park Police Chief Matthew Walsh said the investigators were told by Bean that he was pulling his vehicle into the driveway of the home at which he resides to deliver food to his family. However, he said his vehicle was sticking out into the roadway, and when he went to reposition it, he almost caused an accident with another vehicle driven by Stiso.
“The victim pulled over about two houses down and started a verbal argument with the offender, at which time the offender did admit walking toward the victim and shoving him — causing [the victim] to strike his head on the pavement and become unconscious,” Walsh said.
Walsh said there was no evidence of any other physical violence being done by either Bean or Stiso during the altercation.
After the incident, Walsh said Bean or a family member of his called for an ambulance. Bean was arrested after the incident and released pending charges.
Walsh said the Will County State’s Attorney’s Office is reviewing the investigation.
“It is something that is unfortunate and could have been avoided,” Walsh said of the incident.
Stiso was unconscious when he was transported to Silver Cross Hospital in New Lenox on May 29. He died days later as a result of the fall without regaining consciousness, Walsh said.
