TINLEY PARK, Ill. — The Village of Tinley Park Board of Trustees approved an intergovernmental agreement with Will County Tuesday, Dec. 1, to improve parts of 80th Avenue, from 191st Street to 183rd Street.
The improvements — approved as part of a 6-0 vote — will include roadway widening, additional turn lanes, street lighting upgrades, new traffic signals, updated landscaping, construction of a sidewalk and multi-use path, and the reconstruction of the structure of the drainage ditch around I-80.
“The current estimated costs for the shared improvements are $7.284 million, with the Village responsible for all of the costs over $5.6 million,” Trustee Michael Glotz said during the meeting. “After the improvements are completed, the County will transfer jurisdiction of 80th Avenue from Will County to the Village.”
In a separate 6-0 vote, the trustees also approved the acquisition of several properties and easements for the bike path to be constructed as part of the project.
“The cost of the properties, including expenses, will not exceed $65,000,” Glotz said.
Both items also were discussed at the Committee of the Whole meeting that preceded the regular board meeting on Dec. 1.
